"Some body is eating my porridge!"

Just caught this through the kitchen window........... the turkeys won.

I Have Been Adopted By A Bunch Of Turkeys!

The days are colder, the ground is frozen, and the bugs and grubs are not as readily available for the wild turkeys that live nearby. There is a flock of 16 or so that remember that I have been know to provide a small "turkey snack" when times get tough. They stream out of the near by woods, across the back yard and around to the front of our house where the bird feeders are located. This is also where I throw a small measure of cracked corn.
The "girls" as we call them, scratch at the ground, hunt and peck, and gobble the food up rather quickly. Then they move around to the back of the house, hoping to find another meal. The pickings are not as good back there so the come running around to the front again, as if for the first time, forgetting that they have just cleaned up everything that was there.
We have had freezing rain and snow over these last few days...... guess I will be making my way to the feed store!

Golden Hour ..... best light

Photographers call the hour after sunrise, and the hour before sunset, the Golden Hour, the light is often at its best then...... sometimes I make it ..... (never for the sunrise hour)..... sometimes I don't. I am glad I did not miss these two .

First Snow.... yellow leaves at Golden Hour

I love reflections!

Here we are in the last part of November, the days certainly are much shorter, and colder We have all been around long enough to know what comes next in this part of the woods....

November sunsets are usually spectacular.... the only down side is that they happen too early in the afternoon. Most of us are still busy around 4:30 pm, and often by the time I look out the window and notice the fantastic color display, the light fades and I have missed another one.

Yesterday I was in Magog, a small city at end of our lake, as the sun was getting ready for one more slide behind the mountain. I was near Merrys Point ,and pulled in and parked the car. The wind was strong and cold, but the reflections of the sunset in the windows made it worth while.

The dancing shapes and colors lasted for several minutes...... and then as the last of the light faded there two "sunset tigers" peering out at me through the glass.

Almost the end of October....

We have seen a few flakes of snow in the air.....far to early for it to last. However the best sight was SNOW Geese, yesterday in Danville Quebec. What a treat for the eyes. ( A bit noisy on the ears!!)

At times is seemed as if there was a white cloud of noise..... there were so many geese in the air at one time.

Rusty Ferns

Roadside ferns this year are a lovely rusty orange. As my 93 year old Mother said this afternoon, "Mother Nature has been working overtime in the colour department, what a treat"

One of the young ones from over the winter

He has been visiting a couple of times since the winter...... he came with a sister in June, and spent the afternoon in the yard....he had the beginnings of antlers at that time but one was definitely damaged. A few days ago, I looked out the window, and there he was again. He still has a problem with his antlers, but he has developed well over the summer. I hope he makes it through the fall!!

Monarch Butterfly

I seem to have been too busy to do much about my blog this summer, but thought I should share this Monarch Butterfly.
I saw more of them around this year than last, but not at my garden.

Spring Solstice March 20th

Sunrise at the Stone Circle in Stanstead, Quebec. A few hearty souls gathered at the Stone Circle to welcome the official Spring sunrise. The weather was overcast, but Mr. Sol did make his appearance.

This was the view on January 22, 2010

and for those involved in this years pool
...... VIRTUAL BETS Only!!!!

The Ice Gods Moved In Overnight On The 23rd

January 21, the lake was wide open in front of the Georgeville Dock, it is always the last place to freeze in the winter, and thus has been the point of reference for various Lake Freeze betting pools. The Village Store in Georgeville used to run a pool for when the lake would freeze, and then when it would thaw. Niel McTavish would be the judge, as he was the "mail man" and his run took him along the lake road, McGooan Point Road. From his vantage point he could see what part of the lake was still open and when it closed over.

This is how it looked this morning......

January Afternoon In The Sun

The sun was shining, the water was open and shallow, it was a perfect invitation for a group of Mallards to enjoy the afternoon at the Georgeville Dock....... too bad I frightend them!!!

A Blue Moon, on the last day of the decade has to be a sign of good things for a new year. And, Evening Grosbeaks from the Christmas Bird Count, send Good Wishes as well.
